This scarcely-seen specimen from the old L’Avellan mine has a sizeable cubic face with good clarity. Predominantly light green, the specimen has beautiful blue edges and red zonings within; colours seldom seen in a French specimen.

Located in the Estérel massif near Fréjus, the old L’Avellan mine was worked from 1938 to 1971 for fluorite, baryte and lead. Permanently closed for over 50 years now.

Despite its age, this Chavaniac-Lafayette fluorite still exhibits bright blue colours, with a darker blue zoning and yellow zoning on its outer edges.

A nice example from the Maraval mine, this well-formed specimen is made up of an intricate, neat network of translucent fluorite cubes which contain the characteristic red hematite and black inclusions. Some of the inclusions also grew outside/atop the fluorite crystals like red snow.
