This Valzergues specimen is as captivating as it is glassy, with completely smooth surfaces, good lustre and exceptional clarity. Its colours are vivid and bright; exhibiting all the best hues of Valzergues— orange to yellow, with sky-blue and violet purple zonings.

Remarkably difficult to find such glassiness in this size especially.

Valzergues, Aveyron, France

The Valzergues mine is a famous fluorite deposit in Aveyron, Occitanie, France, beloved among mineral collectors for its rich orange-yellow cubic crystals with blue and purple zonings. Initially discovered in 1926 by prospector Victor Lassalle, it was operated intermittently until its closure in 1970. Etienne Guillou-Gotkovsky’s 1999 monograph, La Mine de Fluorine de Valzergues covers detailed historical and mineralogical documentation of this iconic locality.
