A beautiful Illinois corner with saturated yellow, to almost orange colours. The zonings are colourless with a hint of the rarer blue, with purple edges and etchings on the crystal itself. The fluorite specimen is extremely glassy, so much that the zoning is completely see-through. An exceptional specimen from the famous Annabel Lee mine.

The Annabel Lee Mine is widely regarded by collectors as one of Illinois’ “Big Three” fluorite mines, alongside the famous Minerva No. 1 and Denton mines. The last major fluorspar mine operated by the Ozark-Mahoning Company, Annabel Lee produced exceptional fluorite specimens beloved for their rich yellow, purple and blue colours, striking zonings and associations with calcite, barite, sphalerite and galena. Today, fine specimens from this historic locality are highly sought-after classics of American mineralogy.

Fluorites from this old, iconic German locality has always been few and far in between, so it is always a lucky delight to find any at all, especially one that is so glassy with good lustre and bright colours such as this. In relatively good condition for its age, with an interesting inclusion of galena that adds to its depth.

Like a jagged shard of ice, forever frozen in time. This flawless, colourless Elmwood ‘ice cream cone’ is a remarkable 7.5cm tall beauty with pronounced dissolution features, giving the crystals an unusually sculptural appearance. The fluorite is exceptionally glassy and gemmy, with excellent transparency that allows light to travel deep into the crystals and accentuate the intricate dissolution textures.
