La Barre Mine, Saint-Jacques-d’Ambur, Puy-de-Dôme, France
Presumably the most widely-known fluorite locality in France, the La Barre mine, which was worked from 1918 until 1948, had a large fluorite-quartz vein hosted in migmatites, but all adits have since closed. The deposit is known for producing blue and yellow fluorite specimens, sometimes with blue and purple zonings, or yellow phantoms.

Remarkably difficult to find such glassiness in this size especially.

RM620This scarcely-seen specimen from the old L’Avellan mine has a sizeable cubic face with good clarity. Predominantly light green, the specimen has beautiful blue edges and red zonings within; colours seldom seen in a French specimen.

RM495Beautiful stepped formation on the edges of this Fontsante fluorite, with blue and yellow zonings. The crystal itself has a slight hint of maroon colours, with a sparkly quartz ‘sidecar’.
